Get Rid of Plastic
As I’m sure you’ll agree we must all do whatever we can to reduce our personal use of single use plastic.
There are many items that pose a problem and toothbrushes are one of the worst offenders. Whilst dentists advise you to change your toothbrush every three months it’s a struggle to follow this advice whilst reducing your use of single use plastic.
However, happily for us, manufacturers have now started to produce bamboo toothbrushes.
Bamboo toothbrushes are eco-friendly. Bamboo plants grow quickly and easily and they need little care or fertiliser. (You would know this if you have the misfortune to have a bamboo plant in your garden!) Bamboo is fully biodegradable and the bamboo handles can be placed in the compost.
However, most bamboo toothbrushes will have plastic bristles and you need to pull these out and put them in the recycling before you compost the handle.
It is possible to get bamboo toothbrushes with boar hair for bristles which will biodegrade but, obviously, these won’t be suitable for vegans to use.

Are Bamboo Toothbrushes a New Invention?
Surprisingly enough – no! Apparently bamboo toothbrushes were in use in China in the 15th Century.
Try a Bamboo Toothbrush
So, why not, try a bamboo toothbrush – even if the bristles won’t biodegrade, it’s better than reaching for that plastic one in your local supermarket!
